Extension
The Martin Sewell Building Company was re-appointed to deliver a substantial rear stone-clad extension at Willow Cottage following early delays with another contractor. This re-engagement under a PCSA demonstrates the importance of transparency, collaboration, and accurate planning in restoring client confidence.
After the initial tender loss, MSBC worked closely with the design team to de-risk, refine, and re-submit the scheme for planning approval. This value-engineering process ensured scope clarity and risk mitigation from the outset, addressing the concerns that had led to the previous project difficulties.
The enabling works are nearing completion, including the demolition of a dilapidated outbuilding and clearing of the site footprint. This preparatory phase has been essential in establishing the foundation for the substantial extension work to follow.
A careful assessment of existing boundary walls has been undertaken to ensure seamless integration with the new design. This investigation work demonstrates the thorough approach needed when working with existing structures and established boundaries.
The site’s rich archaeological history requires preparation for monitored substructure excavation, adding an additional layer of complexity that demands careful planning and specialist supervision throughout the groundworks phase.
The upcoming construction of the rear extension will deliver the substantial stone-clad addition in line with the approved design. This work represents the culmination of the collaborative refinement process that brought the project back on track.
Through careful planning around logistics, archaeology, and existing structures, the project has established a strong relationship with the client that is fully aligned with their vision for the space. The successful re-appointment demonstrates how transparency and collaborative problem-solving can restore confidence and deliver successful outcomes even after initial setbacks.
