Historic Building
The Martin Sewell Building Company is undertaking a substantial re-roofing project at the historic school building that houses New Park Community Centre in Chichester. This essential work requires careful attention to remedial repairs whilst maintaining the building’s ongoing public access and community function.
The comprehensive re-roofing works involve the complete strip and replacement of existing roof coverings across the building. This extensive programme addresses weatherproofing concerns whilst ensuring the historic structure remains protected for continued community use.
Remedial repairs form a crucial component of the project, with repair and replacement of all necessary junctions and abutments to ensure long-term weatherproofing and structural integrity. These detailed works address not only the immediate roofing requirements but also the connections and interfaces that are critical to the building’s overall performance.
The project presents unique challenges as works are being carried out while the community centre remains open and in use. This live site management requires careful planning and coordination to ensure that community activities can continue without disruption whilst maintaining safety for both workers and centre users.
Working closely with New Park Community & Arts Association and Sloane & Brown Architects, MSBC is delivering a sensitive and respectful renovation that acknowledges the building’s historic significance and its vital role in the local community.
The project preserves this valued local community asset through updated roofing and structural details whilst maintaining full public access and functionality throughout the construction period. All work aligns with heritage requirements and best practices for conservation-led projects, ensuring this important community facility continues to serve Chichester for years to come.
