Valdoe Listed Property Renovation: Transforming 5,000 square feet of heritage excellence

When The Martin Sewell Building Company was commissioned to undertake the full transformation of a magnificent listed property in the heart of Goodwood, the brief was both exciting and challenging: enhance the functionality of this stunning 5,000 square foot home whilst carefully preserving every aspect of its cherished historic character.

The property, steeped in heritage and architectural significance, required a sensitive approach that would seamlessly blend traditional craftsmanship with thoughtfully chosen modern upgrades. The challenge lay in creating a home that would serve contemporary living requirements whilst honouring the building’s listed status and historical importance.

The transformation began with a comprehensive reconfiguration of the ground floor layout. The existing arrangement, whilst charming, had become impractical for modern family life. MSBC’s team carefully opened up the space to create a more fluid and welcoming environment, ensuring that the alterations enhanced rather than compromised the property’s inherent character.

A significant focus of the project was the installation of a new heating system that would provide efficient warmth throughout the substantial property. Working in collaboration with JK Floor Heating, the team installed underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. This modern solution offered the perfect balance between contemporary comfort and heritage sensitivity, providing consistent warmth without the visual intrusion of traditional radiators that might have detracted from the property’s period features.

The installation of new timber flooring throughout the home marked another crucial element of the renovation. Supplied by Finesse Wooden Floors, these carefully selected materials added warmth and elegance to each room whilst complementing the property’s historic aesthetic. The choice of timber was particularly important in a listed building, ensuring that the new floors would age gracefully and enhance rather than compete with existing period features.

Perhaps the most striking transformation came with the creation of a bespoke kitchen that would serve as the heart of this family home. Designed and installed by Joseph John & Co, the kitchen represented a masterclass in balancing heritage sensitivity with contemporary functionality. Every element was carefully crafted to complement both the home’s historic character and the modern lifestyle requirements of its owners.

The completed renovation stands as a testament to MSBC’s expertise in working with listed properties, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship and modern conveniences can be integrated seamlessly. This beautiful Goodwood home now offers the perfect combination of functionality and timeless elegance, ensuring it will continue to be cherished for generations to come.
